If you follow my Twitter, you’ll know that I was in Melbourne last week. The reason for my trip? I was fortunate enough to be invited to stay in the Lost & Found Hotel Room. Part cultural experiment, part canny promotion for Tourism Victoria, the room showcases some of the best Melbourne-made art, design, and objects. Apply online, and if you’re on of the lucky ones, you can stay in the space for free.
The room was filled with lovely details – Aesop products in the bathroom, a soft mohair throw on the bed, piles of literary journals to read, and a record player complete with vinyl. Everything was thoughtfully chosen and beautifully presented. I spent an evening with the masterminds behind the project, and was regaled with tales of Melbourne’s creative culture and an insider’s guide to the achingly cool bars and restaurants the city has to offer.
And although I am enjoying my turn as a newly minted Sydney-sider – Melbourne, I love you. I can’t wait to return.

Ugh! AMAZING space; so jealous!!
Such a beautiful space – you must have had a relaxing trip. I applied to stay at the hotel but was unsuccessful… so lucky you!
lucinda – I would advise you to keep applying. Even if you’re not accepted the first time, you may be accepted on subsequent applications. Keep trying!
good ensemble.
and the interior indeed, doesn’t feel hotel-ish.
The “endless kissing” pillow is the sweetest thing ever…
So glad to hear you enjoyed your stay in Melbourne!
These photographs are just beautiful. Here I was thinking this was your house before I scrolled down to the text, I am sort of relieved it isn’t. Nobody’s house should be that clean and perfect.
I never knew Sportsgirl carried leather pants! I can’t find them in the online store though :(
Hayley - unfortunately, they’re from last winter! I don’t think they did a re-cut this year. Keep an eye out on eBay, occasionally they turn up there!
Oh the room looks amazing Nadia. I also applied but am yet to hear anything. I enjoyed living in it vicariously through your photos though! x
