Yes, it’s that floral shirt. Inspired by Celine, copied by Zara and spawning about a million imitations (both overseas and locally), dark, moody florals are tipped to be everywhere this autumn/winter. And here I am getting on board the trend.
Whenever I find myself pining for an item that all the cool girls are wearing, I force myself to wait and consider the purchase. Do I really like it? Does it fit in with my aesthetic? Or do I just want it because Ilanka makes it look so incredibly good?
In this case, I’ve come to the conclusion that I do like it for what it is, and not just because it’s currently in fashion. I shy away from girly, pretty florals but give me a dramatic, Caravaggio-inspired bloom and I’ll wear it with leather and make it my own. It’s all about the contrast.
