Iris Van Herpen’s collection seemed to be inspired by the minutiae of nature: the antenna of a moth; droplets of water suspended mid-splash; vertebrae; the sinuous tentacles of a cephalopod.

Utterly enchanted by the words and aesthetic of this Jerusalem-born, Iceland-based designer, who’s worked for Alexander McQueen and spent at least part of his life in my hometown of Melbourne.

I highly recommend you peruse his About page, which reads like an e.e cummings poem.

I can’t remember exactly how I discovered Pinterest, but I do remember the rush of nerdish excitement I felt when I saw how aesthetically pleasing it was. Thoughtfully chosen objects set against a clean, white background - things organised neatly. I was instantly obsessed.

Billed as a “virtual pinboard,” Pinterest allows users to play curator to whatever theme they like – the board you see above is my edit of wearables. For me, it’s part shopping list, part personal trend-tracker. As I pin, it becomes more evident to me exactly what I’m drawn to in my current sartorial state (lucite and clear quartz; black; bone motifs; leather everything).

My other pinboards cover interiors and decor, art and editorial, inspiring style and miscellaneous lovelies. And as I pin, the patterns emerge – a preference for black, white and grey; covered faces; skulls; lunar motifs. Over, and over, and over.

The Pinterest team were kind enough to feature me as part of their Spring Looks feature, alongside luminaries such as Gala Darling, The Drifter and the Gypsy and What Would a Nerd Wear, where my board is (quite accurately) described as “perpetual black.”

I don’t look at my Google Analytics very often, but a recent browse over my referring traffic revealed a Tumblr blog called GAWS. What started out as a cursory click to see who had linked to me, quickly turned into a blog infatuation – GAWS is curation done right.

Impeccably chosen images (anything from Rick Owens runway shots to ’90s rappers to minimalist design) are interspersed with a selection of music, quotes, and musings from Liam himself (the man behind the blog). I dig pretty much everything that Liam covers – from coveting Ann Demeulemeester accessories to crushing on Freja Beha Erichsen to repping OFWGKTA.

Plus, he’s funny:

Q: Can you explain wtf to me a menswear blogger is?

A: We’re like normal bloggers, except we have less money due to constant jawn copping. We have manly accessories and do things with our hair. We have many leather bound lookbooks and our apartments smell like fresh dry cleaning. We cuff our jeans and dress better than your dad.

So, after spending a couple of hours going through the archives of GAWS, I still couldn’t find which post was referring traffic to me (although I did find a picture of Miss Ghost and her come-hither stare). Mystery unsolved.
