In Conversation with Daisy Johnson
Daisy Johnson’s debut novel Everything Under is one of those books that swallows you whole. It’s partly the story of a woman searching for her mother. It’s partly the story of a strange creature called the Bonak who lives — and hunts — in the river. It’s partly the story of a girl who knows she’s going to do something terrible to her parents, and is trying desperately to avoid her fate. It’s a story that’s both familiar and deeply strange.
I’m sitting down with Daisy at the Sydney Writers’ Festival to discuss mythology, fate and the pull of the river, as well as what it’s like to be the youngest ever author to be shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Do come!
